Two more students charged in Lexington school threats, district says

Lexington City Schools said a high school and middle student are both identified and charged in connection to the various threats.

LEXINGTON, N.C. — Editor's note: Lexington City Schools on how to navigate through social media threats.

Two more students have been arrested in connection with the social media threats in Lexington, the district says.

The Lexington Police Department (LPD) and Lexington City Schools (LCS) continue to work together to investigate and respond to recent threats towards Lexington Senior High School and Lexington Middle School.

The district said over the last 10 days, 6 separate threats of violence to occur at Lexington Senior High School (LSHS) and Lexington Middle School (LMS) have been posted to various social media platforms.

Detectives have identified and charged two other students for two other incidents where threats were made. A 15-year-old LSHS student has now been charged with felony communicating a threat of mass violence on educational property related to a threat made towards LSHS on October 9.

A 14-year-old student at Lexington Middle School (LMS) has been charged with felony communicating a threat of mass violence on educational property and two additional counts of misdemeanor communicating threats to individuals related to a threat made towards LMS and two staff members on Oct. 10,

LPD school resource officers have worked closely with the school staff to decide the best course of action for each event, prioritizing the safety of all students.

"Our students don't deserve to live in fear nor continue to have their school days disrupted," the district wrote in a statement. "We ask that all community members join in with Lexington City Schools and Lexington Police Department in our efforts to stop this from happening."

As previously shared, detectives identified and charged two students, 14 and 15 years old, at LSHS with felony communicating a threat of mass violence on educational property. This was related to a threat on Oct. 4.
