Thomasville City Schools begin clear bag policy in August

The clear bag policy will be in place for after school athletic events.

THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Thomasville City Schools will implement a clear bag policy starting in August for the 2024-2025 school year.

In continued efforts to enhance safety and security, only clear plastic/vinyl bags will be permitted.

The district said the main objective of the clear bag policy is to increase safety and security for students, families, and staff. Clear bags provide transparency and enable security personnel to easily inspect their contents, thus reducing the likelihood of prohibited items entering the school property.

Bags that are allowed:

  • Clear plastic or vinyl bags no larger than 12” x 6” x 12”
  • One-gallon-sized or smaller zip storage bags
  • Small clutch bags
  • Diaper bags and bags used for medical supplies will be allowed but will be subject to inspection. Diaper bags are allowed as long as an infant/toddler is present.

Bags that are NOT allowed:

  • Purses larger than a clutch bag
  • Briefcases
  • Backpacks
  • Fanny packs
  • Cinch/Drawstring bags
  • Computer bags/Camera Bags
  • Luggage of any kind

The district said the metal detectors may also be used at these events to ensure an additional level of security for those attending events on TCS precincts.
