GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Guilford County School leaders have voted in favor to rename Aycock Middle School.
The Guilford County Schools Board of Education voted 9 to 2 in favor of the change. The school will be renamed in the 2017-2018 school year.
The school is named after Charles Aycock, who served as the state's governor from 1901 to 1905. He was known as the education governor, but he was also an advocate for white supremacy.
Several schools, including UNCG, have removed the Aycock name from campus buildings.
The board wants community input on renaming the school.
