ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — Editor's Note: The video above is from a previous story our sister station 11 Alive covered about a murder-suicide involving Christopher Edwards II.
The father of an Elon alum killed in a murder-suicide announced he has established two scholarships in his honor, according to the university.
The university said the two scholarships will be designated for incoming journalism students. They are also presenting an inaugural award to the late Christopher Edwards II for sports journalism for his contributions to the university, highlighting all his academic success.
In August 2019, Edwards died in a murder-suicide in Georgia.
In a medical examiner's report retrieved by, our sister station, 11 Alive said 24-year-old Christopher Edwards II was killed in a room where he was in bed and that his mother shot and killed 20-year-old Erin Edwards, his sister, in a separate room. The sister and mother died in the same room, the report states.
Remembering Edwards
Edwards was a high-achieving student who took advantage of experiential learning opportunities. He was a host of “One on One Sports,” participated in Elon Sports Vision, and co-hosted a show on WSOE dedicated to exceptional Black music called “The Urban Power Hour.” He also played trombone in the Fire of the Carolinas marching band, leading the low brass section.
Edwards also exemplified what the Elon community means that his many friends regarded him as “The Mayor of Elon.”
