GREENSBORO, N.C. — The deadline for incoming first-year and transfer undergrad students to enroll at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCA&T) has been extended from May 1 to May 15th.
Since last fall, the U.S. Department of Education has been revamping the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which has resulted in unexpected and widespread delays. Delays in completing final changes to the new FAFSA have complicated the college admissions process for many students. A completed FAFSA is required for any student who seeks federal financial aid.
North Carolina A&T leaders decided to extend the usual deadline by two weeks to give students and families sufficient time to get complete information on student financial aid and understand how it affects their financial circumstances.
“This year’s applicants to North Carolina A&T are outstanding, and those whom we have admitted are some of the most accomplished students in the nation,” said Joseph Montgomery, associate vice provost for Enrolment Management at A&T. “For them and their families, choosing where they will begin school this fall is a major, consequential decision. We want each student and family to have complete information so that they can feel confident they are making a sound decision.”
North Carolina A&T has not raised its tuition in seven years to make college more affordable for students and families, like other members of the UNC System. Many students still need financial aid. Completing a FAFSA is necessary to determine federal assistance eligibility for programs like the Pell Grant, which assesses each family's financial need and allocates funding accordingly.
