ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — The pandemic certainly shifted the way students share and learn information in the classroom.
Rockingham Community College school reps say remote learning gave their students with a tight work or home life schedule more options for learning.
This is why they are offering more online courses for students to choose from.
It's called "Hybrid-Flexible" courses also known as HyFlex – and it enables students to choose from three attendance options:
- The first option is students can attend in person in a specific room and time.
- For the second option, students can attend class online.
- The third option: Students can watch a recording of a class online outside of their scheduled meeting time.
RCC started offering HyFlex courses during the Fall 2023 semester. Students do not have to stick with one option but can vary their manner of attendance based on their availability.
So far, over 60 students have taken advantage of HyFlex classes in Psychology and Spanish.
"It gives them again the flexibility to attend class on their own time and schedule. So they can balance their work and their home life and still give them the opportunity to have that education and better themselves. It allows them to persist and not have to decide you know either one or the other," Gabrielle Rumley-Smith, Director of the Center of Teaching and Learning Academic Affairs said.
For fall classes, registration for current students begins on April 8, and registration opens for new students on April 10. Summer term registration is already open for everyone.
RCC accepts applications from prospective students at any time so there is no need to wait to enroll.
