Guilford County Schools consider rebuilding elementary school

The district initially planned to make major repairs only, but architects determined Lindley Elementary was beyond repair.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The future of a Greensboro elementary school is uncertain.

Guilford County School officials are considering rebuilding Lindley Elementary.

The district initially planned to make major repairs only, but architects determined it was beyond repair and needed major system upgrades.

The group is recommending tearing down the school and starting from scratch.

Architects also said the building cannot keep up with the growing number of students in the area.

The district plans to meet with parents before making a final decision.

On January 5, 2023, the Guilford County Board of Commissioners approved a $7.5 million project ordinance for program management and design for Lindley Elementary. Earlier this summer, GCS engaged pre-selected architects and engineers to conduct a more detailed site analysis, which recommended that GCS consider rebuilding the school due to the extensive repairs and major system replacements required. Based on the limited space at Lindley Elementary, the site cannot accommodate the additional seat capacity needed and mandated state classroom site requirements.
