Some GCS families are facing transportation issues before the first day of school

A parent said he does not have bus schedules for two out of his three children.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — UPDATE: The District updated transportation for the Adams family.

Statement: We're still asking families to call their school, transportation or fill out a let's talk dialogue via our website if we're having issues. - GCS Spokesperson

This week, many K-12 triad schools will resume this week.

A Guilford County Schools parent said he is forced to make last minute plans because his children's bus schedules are not available.

Marlin Adams told us he'll have to drive his three kids to different schools on Monday.

"The concern is when you have children and you're expecting them to take the bus. Now you're put in a situation where you followed the process and now you've to wait in a car ride line all morning and afternoon," he shared.

Adams said the inconvenience is a repeat of last year. He said the district previously resolved the issue in a few weeks. He questions why he has to wait when he did everything right.

"We fill out these forms and submit our request in May in accordance with the timeline," he said.

In a statement Friday the district said, "The GCS Transportation Department has processed more than 37,000 on-time requests for transportation." Adams questions how only one of his three kids requests got processed in time.

"My concern is somewhere in that process between starting schools and changing schools that something is broken with information not being communicated from the forms that we are submitting as parents to the school," he said.

Adams said he has made contact with district administrators and hopes to get his kids a safe ride to school.

The district said families should be able to see their child's bus assignment on the parent school portal, but some parents told us their children are not assigned.
