ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — Alamance Community College unveiled a new scholarship program geared at helping adults on Monday, Nov. 11.
The school announced a new scholarship initiative, called the Parent Promise. A statewide nonprofit called myFutureNC is supporting the program.
Parents whose students enroll in dual enrollment courses through ACC can now take one free class per semester. They offer online, in-person and hybrid options.
It also allows parents access to the full breadth of resources ACC provides such as tutoring, libraries and career advising.
The scholarship also gives up to $250 for school books.
The hope is that the program gets more people ready for the job boom in our area.
"We've got to make sure that what we're doing is we're aligning with the labor market. And so whoever's getting skilled in Alamance County, our goal is to ultimately have them skilled for jobs right here in the county as well," said Cecilia Holden, the president and CEO of myFutureNC.
The nonprofit said its goal is to have 2 million adults pick up a new credential or degree by 2030.
