WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man has pleaded guilty to multiple charges connected to a deadly wrong-way crash that killed four people on US 52 in April 2023, according to the Forsyth County District Attorney's Office.

Pedro Alfonso Galdamez, 51, was drinking at La Mansion bar on April 16, 2023.

He got behind the wheel at around 3 a.m. with a blood alcohol content of .26, over three times the legal limit.

While driving, Galdamez made an illegal U-turn, causing him to drive northbound in the southbound lanes of US 52 in Winston-Salem.

He crashed into 60-year-old Blanca Bernal head-on, killing her, Santa Bernadino, 46, and Estafania Hernandez, 32, at the scene. Gregoria Jimenez, 64, was taken to the hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Galdamez was arrested and charged with four counts of Second-Degree Murder, four counts of Felony Death by Motor Vehicle and Driving While Impaired. He was cited for No Operators License and Driving the Wrong Way.

During booking, it was determined that Galdamez had provided officers with a false ID. He was found to have not ever been licensed to drive.

Galdamez was sentenced to 314 to 402 months (or 26 to 33 years) in prison.
