A Greensboro neighborhood wants answers after a woman found shot in a vehicle dies

A Denny Road home was searched when police say they got a tip the suspect was inside.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A Greensboro neighborhood is searching for answers after the odd death of a woman.

Boarded windows and doors tell a story of a tense situation that took place on Denny Road Friday May 24.

Greensboro police said they were called to the area about a car crash.

When they arrived, they found a car crashed and a woman shot inside.

Things escalated quickly when police said they got a tip that the suspect responsible ran into a home in the neighborhood.

"We had 50 cops out there for like three hours," said neighborhood resident Nathan Houge. " Then there was a swat stand-off for about an hour and a half. "

Police didn't find anyone inside.

This frustrated the homeowners whose home was searched. They shared photos saying police rushing their home cost them thousands of dollars worth of damage.

They didn't want to go on camera but wished the police were more transparent.

Houge lives across the street. He said he saw everything play out and also would have liked police to be more open.

"I'm glad the police presence was what it was. I wish there was more transparency about it. Is the situation rectified?" Houge said. "Some transparency to know if I need to be worried about another incident."

Police have shared that the woman found shot was 67-year-old Kathryn Holmes.

Police said she died Sunday.

Houge said Holmes didn't live in the neighborhood but said it was sad to hear she died.

"The car crash was pretty messed up. All the airbags were blown," Houge explained.

Greensboro police said they are still investigating and don't have any suspect information to share at this time.
