High Point police said a 2-year-old was hit by a car after playing in the street unsupervised on Saturday.

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Two women have been charged with neglect after children were playing in the street unsupervised on Saturday. One of the children was hit by a car, police say.

Both women have been charged with two counts of neglect each.

Police said 30-year-old Monae Antoinette Jeffcoat and 36-year-old Shevonne Hunt were each charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a class 1 misdemeanor.

Officers responded to the 700 block of Wise Avenue when an 11-year-old child ran out of a home and into the street, where a 2-year-old was hit by a car. The child was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Jeffcoat and Hunt are expected to appear in court on October 21, 2024. No charges were filed against the driver in the crash.
