Lexington County, SC--Lexington County deputies have arrested a suspect who they say ran over a woman who'd been riding on the hood of her car.
Katie McKenzie Leavitt, 20, is charged with multiple counts, including reckless homicide.
According to officers, Leavitt has been celebrating her birthday at a home on Calvin Court. At some point later in the evening, officers say she drove her car while 20-year-old Laura Diane Merck was on the hood.
The circumstances around what happened next are still under investigation, but deputies say Leavitt's car ran over Merck.
Merck's friends drove her to Lexington Medical Center for treatement. She was then transferred to Palmetto Health Richland where she died on Sunday.
Investigators say Leavitt's driver's license was suspended, and that she did not have insurance on the vehicle.
