WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Winston-Salem Police have charged a suspect tied to the murder of a man that happened back in April.
Police obtained a warrant for arrest charging 26-year-old Harry Lee Hunter Jr. with murder.
Hunter is currently in the custody of the NC Department of Corrections on unrelated charges, so a bond and court date will be set at a later time.
Investigators believe Hunter is responsible for shooting and killing Joshua Bernard Brown. Police say the shooting happened April 30 on Cameron Avenue. Brown died at the hospital.
According to NC Department of Public Safety records, the murder of Mr. Brown happened less than one month after Hunter got out of prison for possession of a weapon of mass destruction, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, 2nd degree trespassing, and possession of schedule II narcotic.
Mr. Brown's death marked the sixth homicide in Winston-Salem in 2016, as compared to two homicides for the same time in 2015.
