Winston-Salem respond to shots fired after a two-car collision overnight

After a minor-collision, shots were fired from car in crash leaving one passenger with a gun shot wound in the back.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem Police Department responded to the 2500 block of Fanning Oaks Drive to investigate a reported shooting at 3:10 a.m. Upon arrival, officers located a victim, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his back. The victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated for what was later determined to be a non-life-threatening injury.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was a passenger in a work van that was involved in a minor collision with an unknown make/model vehicle that was occupied by four (4) unidentified Hispanic males; several of whom were armed with handguns. 

The driver and occupants of the unknown make/model vehicle followed the van from the crash site and at least one of its occupants fired several shots at the work van, striking the victim in the back. The investigation is ongoing at this time; further confirmed information will be released as when available and or appropriate.
