Man pleads guilty, sentenced to 25+ years after dismembering Winston-Salem man

In April of 2017, police discovered the remains of 75-year-old, John Agnew inside his home on Timberline Drive in Winston-Salem.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man was sentenced to at least 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to killing and dismembering a Winston-Salem man, according to the Forsyth County District Attorney's office.

In April 2017, police discovered the remains of 75-year-old John Agnew inside his home on Timberline Drive in Winston-Salem.

An autopsy report sources investigative reports that Agnew’s body parts were found in a duffel bag in a bathroom at the house. Investigators also found knives and a hacksaw in the kitchen, and a hatchet was on the couch. NCDOT workers later discovered part of Agnew’s body in a wooded area near Archdale.

Police arrested Adrion Demore Whorley and charged him with First Degree Murder and Concealment of Death.

Whorley was found to be incompetent to stand trial after his arrest, the DA's office said. He received "extensive psychiatric treatment" in order to proceed with the trial.

Whorley has since pleaded guilty to Second Degree Murder, Destroying a Body/Removing and Concealing an Unnatural Death, and Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.

He was sentenced to 25 to 31 years in prison.
