FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — A Winston-Salem man was sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison for attempted first-degree murder back in 2021, according to the Forsyth County District Attorney's Office.

Davon Rashard Carter entered a guilty plea for attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and several other charges on Monday, April 29.

On Dec. 6, 2021, the DA said Carter offered to drive Shaheam Eshea Hunter to an appointment and Hunter agreed.

Carter drove about a quarter of a mile away before shooting Hunter twice.

The DA said Carter then pushed Hunter out of his car.

The police were called for  Hunter. They found an unarmed Hunter lying motionless in the middle of East 10th Street.

Hunter was shot in the leg and spine. His injuries were considered life-threatening.

Hunter was rushed to the hospital, but due to the severity of the wound to his spine, he is now paralyzed from the waist down.

Carter will face 190 to 240 months in prison.
