WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man is facing a murder charge after a two-month-old infant died after spending nearly two years in the hospital.
Winston-Salem police said Howard Moore was charged with murder Friday for charges related to an incident in 2020.
Police said officers responded to 2300 block of Konnoak View Drive on June 15, 2020, on a report of an infant not breathing.
First responders attempted life-saving measures on two-month-old Nayture Marie Moore and were able to restore her heartbeat and breathing, however, she never regained consciousness.
According to a police report, medical examiners revealed Nayture suffered from injuries consistent with abuse.
Police said Nayture remained unconscious and under medical care at facilities in North Carolina and Virginia until she passed away on May 24, 2022.
Police originally arrested Moore in June 2022 and charged him with nine felony counts of child abuse. His bond was originally set for $500,000.
Moore was being held in the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center where he was served the warrant for murder.
He appeared before the magistrate and he was given no bond allowed.
He is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
