Dog put down after owner shoots animal in the mouth, deputies say

Deputies said when they got to the house, they found the dog bleeding severely from its mouth.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Deputies arrested a Winston-Salem man accused of shooting a dog in the mouth. Investigators said the dog had to be put down because of its injuries. 

On Wednesday, Forsyth County Sheriff's Deputies were called out to a house on E. Twenty-Third Street following a report of an injured animal. 

Deputies said they found a dog bleeding severely from the mouth. According to a report, the owner admitted to shooting the dog for an alleged biting incident. 

Deputies said the dog's injuries were too serious and the dog had to be put down. 

On Monday, deputies arrested David Lee Sutton, 50, for felony animal cruelty and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. 

He was taken to jail, where no bond has been allowed.
