Winston-Salem man arrested after stolen car chase in Rowan County, deputies say

Deputies said a Winston-Salem man is facing several charges after stealing a car from Charlotte, sparking a high-speed chase through Rowan County.

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A Winston-Salem man was arrested Wednesday after taking authorities on a high-speed chase throughout Salisbury with a stolen car, according to the Rowan County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said they received a notification about a black Cadillac CTS Performance vehicle stolen out of Charlotte. That's when deputies set up a traffic stop, attempting to find the vehicle. Once they found the vehicle traveling on North Main Street on US-29 in China Grove, they attempted a traffic stop.

Authorities said the driver then sped up, taking deputies on a high-speed chase.

The suspect led deputies through South Main Street and multiple streets throughout Salisbury before eventually turning onto Old Concord Road, according to deputies.

That's when authorities said the driver eventually pulled over and ran from the vehicle across railroad tracks near Gold Hill Avenue. Two passengers in the vehicle were detained and deputies said they caught up with the driver, Dashon Edwards Hopkins of Winston-Salem after a lengthy chase.

Hopkins was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Felony Flee to Elude Arrest
  • Felony Possession of a Stolen Motor-Vehicle
  • Misdemeanor Possession of a Stolen License Plate, Resist, Delay, Obstruct
  • Simple Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession of Marijuana Drug Paraphernalia
  • Driving while License Revoked
  • Speeding 150 mph in a 45 mph Zone

Deputies placed Hopkins in the Rowan County Detention Center under a secured $40,000.00.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Officers of the Salisbury Police Department, the Troopers of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, and the members of the community who assisted in apprehending Hopkins.
