Keziah Gibbons has been charged with one misdemeanor count of assault on a child under 12.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — According to Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, a Pre-K teacher was arrested Tuesday after an investigation into an incident involving a student that happened last month.

Keziah Gibbons was charged with misdemeanor assault on a child under 12 related to the incident, which occurred at Old Town Elementary School on Sept. 24. According to Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, Gibbons has been suspended with pay pending the results of their own internal investigation.

“We hold our teachers to the highest standards when it comes to creating a safe and welcoming environment in our classrooms, said district Superintendent Tricia McManus. "We do not condone the use of physical force against children. We are exploring what we must do to ensure that every teacher is supported and understands our policies and appropriate strategies for managing student behavior.”

According to the district, Gibbons worked as a teacher assistant at the Special Children's School from 2018 until August, when she became a Pre-K teacher at Old Town Elementary. They said Gibbons had done nothing in the past that required disciplinary action.
