ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — A Wilmington man was sentenced to 42 months in prison Wednesday for crimes related to a 2022 incident in Alamance County.
Christopher Michael Caulder, 30, pleaded guilty to one count of felon in possession of a firearm. He entered his plea at the beginning of April.
Court records say that on Nov. 7, 2022, Alamance County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a residence in Alamance County after receiving a 911 call that Caulder was communicating homicidal and suicidal threats. Upon arriving to the scene, deputies were told by Caulder's mother that he had a safe in the basement with various firearms and ammunition.
Caulder brought the guns and ammo from his residence in Wilmington. After obtaining a search warrant, investigators found a total of 23 firearms, thousands of rounds of ammo, hundreds of magazines, body armor, firearm accessories and multiple ghost guns — which are incomplete firearm receivers.
Modifications had been made to several of the firearms, according to investigators. A total of three rifles had barrels shorter than 16 inches, and another had a hole drilled into it for the purpose of installing a fully automatic trigger system. Caulder reportedly told investigators he was trying to make a homemade machine gun.
Caulder has previously been convicted for discharging a weapon into occupied property in Alamance County in 2019, for which he was sentenced to more than a year in prison.
