WILKES COUNTY, N.C. — A commissioner in Wilkes County resigns after assault allegations.

Greene sent a resignation letter that was effective at 4:59 p.m. Tuesday.

It is with the deepest regret, but with the best interests of my family, Wilkes County, and the Wilkes County Board of Commissioners at heart, that I hereby tender my resignation as a Wilkes County Commissioner. I feel that I have worked as hard as I can in my nearly two and one-half years on the Board to make a positive difference for the County, and I am very proud of what has been accomplished during that time. The County has moved forward in a number of significant ways, and I am proud to have been a part of that. It was also an honor to be selected by you as the Chairman of this Board last December. My service to the County has definitely been a high point in my life, and I will continue to treasure it and will always love this County and its people. My resignation is effective as of 4:59 p.m. today. May 7, 2024, immediately prior to the beginning of the Board's regularly scheduled meeting. I would like to once again thank the citizens ofWiIkes County for the honor of allowing me to serve as a member of the Board of Commissioners. My interest has always been, and will always be, to try and do what is best for this great County of ours.

Greene was served with two private party warrants. One count of assault on a female and one count of domestic criminal trespass. He was then released on a $1500 unsecured bond.
