HAMPTONVILLE, N.C. — Shots were fired near the sports fields at West Yadkin Elementary around 7:40 p.m. on Friday, May 10, according to the Yadkin County Sheriff's Office.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they said there was evidence of the rounds hitting a concession stand. From then, they were able to determine the direction and location of where the shots were fired.
Deputies said when they arrived at the location, three juveniles were found home alone.
The adult in charge of the property arrived later.
Deputies obtained a search warrant and were able to identify the firearm used to fire the shots.
Salomon Maya Osorio, 39, was arrested and charged with violating North Carolina General Statute 14-315.1, which regards the storage of the firearm and being accessible to a minor who used it to commit a crime.
Deputies said it was "an isolated albeit reckless incident with no further threat to public safety."
