WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A 61-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection to a bank robbery at Wells Fargo in Winston-Salem on Wednesday, May 1, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.
Winston-Salem police said Christopher Jerome Crumpton approached the cashier and passed them a note. The note demanded money and said he had a gun. However, police said no weapon was ever shown.
Investigators said Crumpton left the bank after receiving the money. Police did not say how much money was stolen.
The incident happened at the Wells Fargo at 4626 Country Club Road.
Officers said they found the suspect and getaway driver in the Peters Creek BP at 601 Peters Creek Parkway. Police said they found evidence to link them to the robbery.
After further investigation, the getaway driver was not charged in connection to this incident. However, Crumpton was charged with felony robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Police said he is currently behind bars without bond.
This was another collaborative effort between the Patrol Division, CID, Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT), Gun Crime Reduction Unit (GCRU), and Real Time Crime Center (RTCC).
