LEXINGTON, N.C. — A man who led officers on a 24-mile chase in a U-Haul box truck was arrested in Charlotte two days later, according to the Lexington Police Department.
On Sunday, Dec. 17, police attempted to stop the driver of a U-Haul on South Main Street at Fowler Avenue who was wanted for outstanding felony warrants. Police said 31-year-old Jonathan Dillon failed to stop, sparking a chase.
During the chase, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol had to get involved. Officers said Dillion crashed into a tree at Riverview Road Extension near River Pointe before taking off running.
Dillon was wanted for the following charges:
- Possession of a stolen motor vehicle
- Possession with the intent to sell or deliver (PWISD) marijuana
- Felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance
- Felony possession of marijuana
- Identity theft
- Felony speed to elude arrest
- Assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer
- Hit and run
- Property damage
- Driving while license revoked
- PWISD marijuana
- Felony possession of marijuana
- PWISD synthetic marijuana
- Felony maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance
- Resisting arrest, and multiple other misdemeanor charges and motor vehicle infractions
On Tuesday, Dec.19 at noon, the U.S. Marshal’s Service arrested Dillon without incident with the assistance of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department and the Lexington Police Department.
Lexington Police detectives took him into custody and served all his outstanding warrants.
Dillon is being held in the Davidson County Jail with no bond and is scheduled to appear at Lexington District Court on April 12, 2024.
