Thomasville woman turns herself in after deadly hit-and-run, police say

Thomasville police said a woman is charged in connection to a hit-and-run that killed a Winston-Salem woman walking along Liberty Drive.

THOMASVILLE, N.C. — A woman tied to a deadly hit-and-run in Thomasville has turned herself in, according to the Thomasville Police Department.

On Sunday, May 12, police said they received a report about an unconscious woman lying in the roadway of Liberty Drive around 4:43 a.m.

Investigators said the woman had been walking south in the outside lane of travel before a driver hit the woman and continued driving without stopping. Police said 52-year-old Janice Batten, of Winston Salem, died at the scene as a result of her injuries from the crash. 

Thomasville police said on Thursday, May 16, Misty Covington of Thomasville turned herself in and was charged with felonious hit-and-run, where she received a $25,000 secured bond and was placed in the Davidson County Jail. 

Her court date is set for June 12 in Lexington.
