THOMASVILLE, N.C. — A Thomasville man allegedly shot a man in the chest over a dispute regarding his ex-wife, according to Thomasville police.
Austin Knowles, 32, was allegedly shot in the chest and found in the front yard of a home on the 1600 block of Blair Street in Thomasville, according to police. Officers were called to the scene on Dec. 2 at 11:36 a.m.
Knowles was taken to a local hospital for treatment where he is listed in critical but stable condition.
Kevin Smith, 38, was arrested by officers on the scene without incident, police said. Smith has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, police said.
According to police, Smith had recently moved back in with his ex-wife. Knowles was allegedly romantically involved with Smith's ex-wife and came by the home. An argument allegedly broke out between the two men. Police said this was when Smith shot Knowles in the chest.
The investigation is still ongoing.
