2 arrested, 1 wanted for violent crimes in Stoneville, deputies say

The two are accused of home invasion and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office arrested two people and is searching for one more in connection to violent crimes in the Stoneville area.

David Lenzie Purgason Jr., 34, and Brittany Leigh Watkins, 32, are accused of breaking into a Stoneville home on Sept. 13.

Purgason was arrested and charged with First Burglary, Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Larceny After B&E, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Watkins was arrested and charged with First Burglary and Larceny After B&E.

Deputies said that on Sept. 25, the pair is accused of shooting into a vehicle with a family inside. The bullet nearly hit a 2-year-old and a 5-year-old. The 2-year-old’s child safety seat stopped the bullet, deputies said.

Purgason received additional charges for the offense, including Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Watkins was charged with Aiding and Abetting for providing a convicted felon a firearm.

Purgason was placed under a $1,002,000 secured bond, and Watkins was placed under a $500,000 secured bond.

Deputies are also searching for Robbie Wayne Hicks, 34, who they said is connected to the Sept. 13 home invasion.
