Stolen car chase in Winston-Salem leads to arrest, police say

Winston-Salem police said a green Nissan Altima was stolen.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man was arrested for leading police in a vehicle pursuit with a stolen car in Winston-Salem at 1:56 p.m. on Oct. 15, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.

In the early morning of Oct. 15, a green Nissan Altima was allegedly stolen at gunpoint, police said.

That afternoon police said they saw the vehicle parked on the 5900 block of University Parkway

Police identified the driver as Joshua Carter. 

Police said they tried to block the car in, but Carter allegedly accelerated and hit three patrol cars.

Carter also allegedly hit another vehicle that was parked and unoccupied.

Carter allegedly led police in a car chase, traveling north. The pursuit ended at the intersection of 30th Street and Greenway Avenue when Carter allegedly hit another patrol car.

According to police, Carter attempted to run away from the scene before being arrested.

Police said neither Carter nor the officers were injured.

Carter was charged with Felony Flee to Elude, three counts of Assault with Deadly Weapon on Government Official, Possessing a Stolen Motor Vehicle, three counts of  Malicious Conduct by Prisoner, Assault of Government Official, and as well as other traffic violations.
