6 people arrested during Crime Suppression Project in High Point, police say

More than 1,000 grams of meth seized, along with weapons, heroin, and marijuana.

HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point police arrested six people and seized illegal guns and drugs during a recent Crime Suppression Project.

Officers led the project from Dec. 19-22. The project focused on people involved in violent crime and drug activity in the area.

On Dec. 19, officers arrested five people, including one teen, police said.

Around 2:35 p.m., a detective attempted to stop a car with a fictitious license plate. The car sped off but was spotted again several hours later.

Detectives attempted another traffic stop near Piedmont Parkway and Guilford College Road when the driver rammed several unmarked police cars.

Detectives stopped the car, which was reported stolen out of Charlotte.

Officers arrested the driver, 21-year-old Khristian Robbins.

When officers searched the passengers, they found 18-year-old Aaron Hughes with 117 grams of meth and a teen had marijuana and heroin. They also seized more than $1,100 in cash.

After the traffic stop, officers went to an apartment in the 3000 block of Sherrill Avenue. Detectives conducted a knock and talk and applied for a search warrant.

During the search warrant, officers found two guns and a 7.62 caliber Draco rifle.

One of the guns was reported stolen out of Fayetteville.

Detectives also seized an additional 940 grams of meth from the home.

The project resulted in:

  • 6 arrests
  • 4 guns seized
  • more than 1,000 grams of meth seized
  • .78 grams of heroin seized
  • 17 grams of marijuana seized
  • $1,195 seized

High Point police said they were already on the lookout for crimes like this, because of new ways they are reading crime data.

Captain Peter Abernethy said, "we use that data, and analysis to focus our responses all year into if we need to respond specifically to a particular threat or if we see a particular increase of crime in this area, we are really able to model our response based on that."

Robert Martin works with the High Point Community Against Violence.

The program tries to combat violence and steer offenders onto a better path.

"These guns need to get off the streets. Obviously, the guys that got arrested don't need to be carrying these guns. They got into a car chase, they are putting people's lives in danger by doing that," Martin said.
