RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — A couple from Seagrove was formally indicted with felony first-degree murder by the Randolph County Grand Jury during its November session, according to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies initially responded to a home on Needhams Trail in Seagrove on July 24, 2023, in response to a welfare check. When they arrived at the residence, they "located a deceased female juvenile five years of age."
From there, the Randolph County Criminal Investigations Division started a death investigation, which led to the arrest of 30-year-old Billy Gene Myers, Jr. and 32-year-old Christina Ashley Myers on felony child abuse charges.
Michael Anderson, the uncle of the girl, told WFMY News 2 that his niece had cerebral palsy and seizures. He also said the Department of Social Services (DSS) has stopped by the house three different times in the last couple of years.
Court documents WFMY reviewed show Christina Myers faced a misdemeanor child abuse charge in 2019 - but the D.A. later dropped that charge against her.
On November 21, Billy Myers was served with the indictment for felony first-degree murder and received no bond. Christina Myers was served with her indictment on November 22 and also did not receive bond.
