GREENSBORO, N.C. — North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper announced Thursday that the state is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest in a 2019 Greensboro homicide.
On June 26, 2019, officers responded to a vehicle collision at the 1900 block of Merritt Drive. When they arrived, they found Jaishon Banks, 36, dead inside his vehicle from a fatal gunshot wound. Banks' car had crashed into a house on the street, but no one in the home was injured.
The death is being investigated as a homicide.
"He was my only child. He was gunned down in the most horrific way, with the most horrific guns you can think of," Sheila Banks, Jaishon's mother, told WFMY News 2 at a Mothers Standing Against Gun Violence candlelight vigil in October 2019. "I know I'll never get the answer that I want. And that is, why? I won't get that answer but I want justice."
Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers also added $5,000 to the reward making the combined total $30,000.
The Greensboro Police Department encourages anyone with relevant information to contact them at 336-373-7543. You can also contact Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000 or the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation at 919-662-4500.
