RAMSEUR, N.C. — A man was arrested Friday night after openly carrying a gun on Eastern Randolph High's campus.
The Randolph County Sheriff's Office said in a press release that deputies responded to Eastern Randolph after school officials reported that a man was seen on campus carrying the firearm while he was there to drop off a child at the football game between Eastern Randolph and Asheboro.
Deputies ultimately arrested the man at his residence and he was promptly moved to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate charged him with felony possession of a firearm on educational property. He received no bond and was set to make his first court appearance Monday, Sept. 3.
The Randolph County Sheriff's Office said they seized the gun, as well as a magazine and ammunition for evidence.
North Carolina law states that "It shall be a Class I felony for any person knowingly to possess or carry, whether openly or concealed, any gun, rifle, pistol, or other firearm of any kind on educational property or to a curricular or extracurricular activity sponsored by a school."
