WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Winston-Salem Police Department responded to a reported shooting on North Cherry Street just after 9 p.m. on Friday.
When officers arrived, police learned that the victim was taken to a hospital by family. The victim's injuries are non-life threatening.
Police said the preliminary investigation showed that the victim and suspect are acquaintances that were earlier involved in a fight.
Investigators said the victim was trying to leave the residence and she was shot.
Police said this appears to be an isolated incident.
Officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department continued their investigation, and as a result, Lasonya Jones, 52, was arrested and charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Discharging a Firearm in the City Limits, and other charges.
Jones was remanded to Forsyth County Detention with no bond.
