Officers Arrest Man, Seize Car After Chase

Sheriff's Deputies arrested and charged Terry Clark Hughes after they say he led them on a high-speed chase.

Alamance County, NC -- Sheriff's Deputies arrested and charged Terry Clark Hughes after they say he led them on a high-speed chase.

Deputies were stopping cars at a checkpoint when Hughes turned his car around to avoid being stopped.

Officers chased Hughes as he drove at speeds reaching more than 100 mph.

The chase continued through Haw River and ended when Hughes lost control of his2000 Nissan Altimaand ran into a tree.

Deputies arrested Hughes and took away hiscar under Alamance County's "Run and You're Done" law, which says police can take your car if you use it to run fromofficers in a felony pursuit.

Hughes was also in possession of a small bag of cocaine, digital scales disguised as cell phones and a loaded shotgun. His license had been revoked, and there were several warrants for his arrest--in numerous counties--for failure to appear in court.

Deputies later found that Hughes was a convicted felon charged with breaking and entering and larceny in 2011.

Hughes is being held in the Alamance County Jail under a $149,600 bond.
