Officer-involved shooting in Burlington early Sunday morning, police say

The Burlington Police Department said no officers were injured in the shooting.

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A shooting happened early Sunday morning in Burlington, according to the Burlington Police Department.

Police said on Sunday, Nov. 3 around 1:27 a.m. a woman called 911 stating one of her sons, who was identified as Logan Blackwood, 19, was under the influence of drugs and was attempting to kill her other son. Police dispatchers said they heard a woman screaming during the 911 call.

Multiple officers from the Burlington Police Department were dispatched to the Misty Springs Mobile Home Park at 928 Sharpe Road.

When police arrived at the scene, the mother said Blackwood was possibly armed with a knife. Police evacuated the woman from the residence and established a safety perimeter around the home, allowing them time to speak with Blackwood.

While attempting to de-escalate the situation, Blackwood exited the residence and charged at police officers. Officers attempted to give commands to Blackwood, but he continued to charge at the officers, attacking them. In response, an officer fired shots at Blackwood, striking him.

Police immediately provided aid to Blackwood and requested emergency medical service. They said Blackwood is hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Warrants for Blackwood’s arrest are pending for the following:

  • Assault on a Female

  • Aggravated Assault on a Handicapped Person

  • Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer

A male, who is related to Blackwood, was injured during the original reported assault, according to police. He was transported to another regional hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has been requested to conduct an investigation into the shooting. The involved officers are on administrative leave, according to the Burlington Police Department.

No officers from the Burlington Police Department were injured during the shooting.

This remains an ongoing story.
