LEXINGTON, N.C. — A woman is accused of abducting an 11-year-old boy and trying to abduct a 4-year-old girl in Davidson County.
Deputies said they were called to a home on First Circle in Lexington on Saturday. According to a release, Christopher Mullins, the children's father, reported that his neighbor, Jennifer Pence, arrived at his home and took his son. Deputies said Pence also attempted to take the man's daughter against his will.
Davidson County Sheriff Richie Simmons said, "Saturday afternoon, we got a call in reference to a neighbor coming over to a man’s house. I think she assaulted the neighbor, and then took his 11-year-old son, tried to take his four-year-old daughter."
Deputies said they found the boy at a location on Queens Lane and returned him to his father.
Mullins said his family now lives in fear.
"We are terrified, but I think we are safe. The neighbors' lookout. Everyone looks out. I can't sleep; my son has been traumatized twice, and it's just not a good deal. I want to move," Mullins said.
Mullins said his family of three knew Pence but was confused by why she would do this. Pence kept saying, "These children are mine."
"Out of her mind, no, no relation at all. I know her from the gas station. I sold her a daybed, and she picked up some stuff. We've gone up there and hung out a couple of times," Mullins explained.
Pence was charged with child abduction and attempted child abduction.
Sheriff Simmons said, "I think she was highly intoxicated from my understanding that being the abduction charge not a kidnapping charge."
She was placed in jail under a $25,000 secured bond.
