ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — Rockingham County deputies are actively searching for an Eden man following a high-speed motorcycle pursuit that crossed into Virginia on Thursday.
The incident began around 7:35 p.m. when a deputy tried to stop a motorcycle on N.C. 14 near Fisher Hill Road after observing a traffic violation that nearly caused a collision.
Upon activating his blue lights and siren, the motorcycle sped away, leading authorities on a pursuit into Virginia along Morgan Ford Road.
The chase ended when the motorcycle exited the roadway at 4354 Morgan Ford Road and came to a stop in a wooded area behind a residence. The motorcycle was located on its side approximately 50 yards into the woods, but the operator, later identified as Cody Warren Purdy, ran away.
Despite a manhunt conducted with assistance from Virginia authorities, Purdy remains at large. In addition to charges stemming from this incident, Purdy faces several outstanding arrest warrants predating the pursuit.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about Purdy’s whereabouts to contact law enforcement.
