RALEIGH, N.C. — The Raleigh Police Department announced early Friday that they have arrested and charged a man in connection with a string of shootings along I-40 earlier this week.
WNCN reports that 23-year-old Andrew Thomas Graney, of Raleigh, was apprehended Thursday evening and is facing charges that include one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, resulting in serious injury, and 11 counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle or dwelling.
North Carolina State University officials confirmed Graney attends the school. He is a senior majoring in anthropology, and has been enrolled since fall 2019.
Court documents indicate that Graney “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously discharged a firearm — a Llama .45 Max 1 handgun” into eight vehicles and four homes. In one incident, investigators said a woman was shot in her leg while inside her car.
Graney was taken into custody, along with another individual, police said. The second person has since been released without any charges.
Police are still investigating. There's a $10,000 reward for more information that leads to further arrests.
“We are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying anyone responsible for these incidents,” read a statement released by police Friday morning.
