HAMPSTEAD, N.C.--Officers say a man involved in a fatal crash that killed a 2-year-old and a newborn in North Carolina faces additional charges.
The Star-News reports 28-year-old Matthew Deans was charged with two new counts Tuesday night on top of the two charges brought against him Saturday.
The new charges include a second count of misdemeanor death by vehicle and a charge of failure to wear a seatbelt, said Assistant District Attorney Connie Jordan.
Officials say Deans, who was driving a box truck, is accused of running into the back of a car, killing 2-year-old Dobbs Eddings. Dobbs' mother, Hadley Eddings, was taken to a hospital where she delivered Reed Eddings at 38 weeks in an emergency cesarean section.
The newborn died of his injuries Monday.
Deans has also been charged with failure to reduce speed in a fatal crash. It is unclear if he has a lawyer.
