Multiple food trucks robbed days apart in Greensboro, police say

Police said they believe all of these robberies are connected.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Business owners are shaken and Greensboro Police are investigating after three food trucks were robbed Thursday and Friday.

Greensboro Police said it happened around the same time last week and leading into the weekend between the hours of 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Geobani Martinez's mother owns one of the flood trucks that was targeted.

"It was around 8:55, like 5 minutes before closing time. My mom was about to close, she was putting things away," Martinez said, "She turned around and saw there was a customer there in front of the window and she went to go offer the food we sell here."

But it was clear the customer didn't want food. Martinez sent News 2 surveillance video that shows a suspect flashing a gun on the counter of the food truck before taking off.

"He slowly started putting his hands down, pulled out a gun slowly, from his waistband and that’s when it's really hard to tell in the audio what he really says but I'm guessing he was demanding cash. That’s when my mom and the other ladies went to the door and they all got down," Martinez said.

Investigators said the following robberies all appear to be related:

  • March 24: Taqueria el Torito was robbed at 10:20 p.m. on 2635 Randleman Road
  • March 25: Taqueria el Farito was robbed on 1611 East Bessemer Avenue at 8:51 p.m.
  • March 25: 123 Tacos was robbed on 2906 West Gate City Boulevard at 9:45 p.m.

Surveillance video shows someone in a yellow hat walking up to the Taqueria El Farito food truck on East Bessemer. The person takes the hat off before flashing a gun. The suspect then covers the gun with their yellow hat before placing it on the counter.

Martinez said after 7 years of serving customers in the same spot on Bessemer Avenue, they don't have any plans to move, even after this scary situation.

His mother hopes the person responsible is arrested.

"She just hopes they really get the guy, we're just working, we have no problems at all here, this is the first time it happened and if someone knows what happened contact the police," he said.

Officers said they haven't identified the suspect yet.

Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to contact Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000.
