DURHAM, N.C. — A Mount Airy man was arrested more than 20 years later in connection to the shooting death of a 19-year-old in Durham, according to police.
On Sep. 16, 1999, police said Jesus Enrique Garza was shot and killed while sitting in a white Geo Storm on the 800 block of North Miami Boulevard in Durham. Days after the shooting, the Durham Police Department obtained a warrant charging Saturnino Gutierrez-Garcia with the murder.
For the past 24 years, investigators said they have continued to search for Gutierrez-Garcia. Officers eventually found out that he was living in Mount Airy, NC.
On Oct.7, the Surry County Sheriff’s Office found and arrested Gutierrez-Garcia in connection to Garza's murder.
He was taken to the Durham County Jail where he is currently being held with no bond.
