Student charged for bringing gun to school in Eden, police say

A 17-year-old student was accused of bringing a gun to Morehead High School on Monday.

EDEN, N.C. — A student from Morehead High School is charged with bringing a gun to school, Eden police said. 

Officers said a 17-year-old student had a gun at school Monday, but they were made aware hours after school was over. A thorough investigation of the incident was completed, and juvenile petitions were obtained. 

The student was placed in secure custody right before midnight the same day and was charged with: 

  • possession of a firearm on educational property
  • possession of a firearm as a minor
  • carrying a concealed weapon

Information about the juvenile charged cannot be disclosed under the state law. This investigation is ongoing.
