A Morehead High School Student is facing criminal charges after allegedly making threats of mass violence against the school, according to police.
A news release from the Eden Police Department's Investigation Division said officers began looking into the threats on Wednesday after receiving a tip. They were then made aware of apparent threats made by a student in a text thread to other students.
After investigating, officers said they gave the information to the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice in order to obtain a juvenile petition against the student for Communicating Threats of Mass Violence against Educational Property.
Officials said the petition has been secured. The student's identity is being withheld under law.
The investigation is still ongoing, according to the release.
