MEBANE, N.C. — The Mebane Police Department investigates reports of juveniles visiting homes offering lawn services. Officers think the seemingly innocent offers could be a scheme to commit robberies.
According to a release from the department, homeowners in the Mebane neighborhoods said juveniles knock on their doors asking to mow their lawns. They say they’ve also seen the juveniles entering their gated backyards to look into their open windows.
One homeowner told News 2, she's worried that the teens will target her home next.
Police are encouraging residents to not let anyone care for their homes unlicensed. They think these lawn care services may be an act that can be used to gain the trust of unsuspecting neighbors.
Mebane police are also looking into a robbery that happened on Mckinley St. on July 3 involving a male wearing a face mask. He came to the victim’s house where she sat in her car and pulled her out from the driver’s side, assaulting her.
After stealing her purse, he ran away. Officers are encouraging those who see suspicious behavior to report it.
