Man Tried to Run Over Firefighters in Stolen Skid Steer, Deputies Say

Randolph County Deputies say the firefighter was able to get inside the firetruck before being hit and drive away.

DENTON, N.C. — Randolph County Deputies say they arrested a man who tried to run over firefighters in a stolen skid steer on Thursday.

This happened in the NC Highway 49 South and Gravel Hill Road area of Denton. 

A firefighter at the scene said a man ran out of a business across the street, got into a skid steer, and started driving up the roadway towards the fire truck. 

According to the release, the man went around the front of the fire truck, then turned the skid steer and started chasing a firefighter down the length of the fire truck. 

The firefighter was able to get inside the truck and drive away. 

Deputies arrived and arrested Alonzo Bernard Cash. They also found drug paraphernalia in the floorboard of the skid steer. 

Deputies found out Cash stole the Bobcat Skid Steer from Mid State Equipment. 

Cash was charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering, felony larceny, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon. 

He's in jail on a $20,000 secured bond.
