Man, 3 teens charged for Western Electric fire in Burlington, police say

Burlington police said the Culp Weaving Mill and Green Level house fire suspects also set Western Electric on fire in November.

BURLINGTON, N.C. — Burlington police identified 4 people in connection to the Western Electric Fire that happened in November. 

Officers have identified 22-year-old Wayland Heath Phillips and three teens, aged 13, 14, and 15, involved in setting the fire at the Western Electric Fire. This is the same group who also set the fire at the Culp Weaving Mill and a house in Green Level, according to police. 

The fire that started inside Western Electric on Nov. 12 damaged one room but did not spread to other parts of the building, according to police. 

Western Electric is a 22-acre manufacturing site with 16 buildings located at 204 Graham-Hopedale Road in Burlington.  

Phillips has been charged with felony breaking and entering and felony burning certain buildings. 

Officers filed petitions against each of the three teens for breaking and entering. 

All four suspects have been identified by the Graham Police Department and Alamance County Sheriff's Office for their involvement in fires at Culp Weaving on Nov. 12 and a house fire in Green Level on Nov. 13. 

This investigation is ongoing.
