ASHEBORO, N.C. — Update: Asheboro police said the suspect, 18-year-old Kelvin Amad Cook, has been arrested.
A man was shot in the leg in Asheboro on Tuesday afternoon, according to police. Officers from the Asheboro Police Department said the shooting happened just before 1 p.m. on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive near Harrison Street.
The victim, 27-year-old Houston Hunter, was found suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. Officers administered first aid to stop the bleeding. Hunter was then transported to a nearby hospital.
Police say investigation led to the identification of the suspect, 18-year-old Kelvin Amad Cook.
Cook is being charged with:
• Attempted First Degree Murder
• Assault w/ Deadly Weapon w/ Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury
• Attempted Armed Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon
• Discharging a Weapon into Occupied Property
• Going Armed to the Terror of the Public
• Carrying a Concealed Weapon
• Discharging a Firearm within the City Limits (3 counts)
• Injury to Personal Property
Cook has not yet been found by law enforcement. Officers say he remains at large and should be considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information on Cook's whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately.
