DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. — Police said a man is in the hospital and a suspect is in custody after a shooting in Davie County Thursday.
The Davie County Sheriff's Office said they received multiple calls about shots heard in the area between Valley Road and Yadkinville Road in Mocksville and responded to the area around 2:30 p.m.
Deputies were then dispatched to a crash on I-40 eastbound at mile marker 178.
The Davie County Sheriff's Office said it was reported that the crash may be related to the shots fired calls in Mocksville.
When deputies arrived at the crash, they discovered the driver of the tractor trailer had been shot in the head and in the left shoulder by a person in another car.
Deputies then discovered from witnesses that a green Chevrolet Suburban may have been involved in the incident.
Investigators began to search for the vehicle.
Information law enforcement received indicated the car had driven to Winston-Salem.
Winston-Salem police said they had found the car on the 500 block of Highland Oaks Drive.
The driver of the Chevrolet Suburban was detained by WSPD.
Davie County deputies then took the suspect into custody.
The driver of the tractor trailer was taken to the hospital.
Deputies found several shell casings in Mocksville along Yadkinville Road.
Davie County deputies said they did not find any other person that was injured at this time.
Investigators said they did not find other buildings or cars that were damaged from the incident.
Deputies said it appears the suspect drove through Mocksville firing a gun and then traveled I-40 eastbound from the Hwy 601 exit. The suspect then fired rounds and struck the Unifi Global truck driver and truck.
Davie County deputies identified the suspect as John Franklin Barrow Jr., 41.
